Since my last post many things have happened. My fingers cannot type all of the ways God has blessed me. This blog cannot express the joy I have in being able to serve God! Jesus is so good.
April and May were blessed very diversely. We saw over 40 souls saved in Missouri. I was able to graduate from West Coast Baptist College. And the Lord protected Bro. Dave Young and I from some incredible attacks of Satan.
The months of June and July were spent in the Philippines. I was with a great friend and fellow preacher, Edwin Gutierrez. Over those two months we saw over a thousand teenagers pray and believe on Jesus. The numbers do not matter, but it was great to see so many profess that Jesus is the only way to be saved!
I made many good friends and ate some incredible food! (Balut) I was honored to be able to preach at least once for every day I was there. God showed me that this world is in desperate need of His love.
In John 3:14 Jesus referred to the story of Moses lifting up the serpent in the wilderness. (The story is found in Numbers chapter 21.) In this passage I found an amazing correlation to the gospel.
1. You have sinned. The Bible says that the people of Israel spake against God and against Moses. They were so frustrated at their circumstances that they were ready to get rid of Moses and quit obeying the God who powerfully delivered them from slavery. They were selfish people who didn’t love God or each other.
We too are selfish. The Bible says ALL have sinned (Romans 3:23). We lie, cheat, steal, gossip, covet, murder, commit adultery, and are downright hateful at times! The people of Israel didn’t put God before their own wants and desires. This was sin. And billions of people today give little or no thought to how they can please God.
2. You will be punished. “God sent fiery serpents among the people… and much people died.” God punished the Israelites because they had spoken against Him and Moses. Thousands of people were dying from these snake bites! He punished them because they were selfish and sinful. If God wouldn’t or couldn’t punish sin, then why would He make laws against it? His laws protect, but when we go our own way, He will punish.
The Bible says that all have sinned; including me and you. Because of the venom of sin all mankind will die. Because of our own sin we will be punished in the lake of fire. (Revelation 21:8)
3. You cannot save yourself. The children of Israel came to Moses and said, “We have sinned… pray unto the LORD that he may take away the serpents from us.” These people could do nothing to cure the venom and they couldn’t do anything to remove the snakes! They had to first of all admit their problem, and then ask for forgiveness.
The majority of people today believe that if they are kind, or a good person, they will enter heaven. This is contrary to the Bible, though. First of all, there is no such thing as a good person because we are all selfish and have sinned (Romans 3:23). Second, if we could earn heaven, Jesus wouldn’t have needed to die for our sins (1 Corinthians 15). Thirdly, no one deserves heaven (Ephesians 2:8-9). If we were allowed into heaven on our own goodness we would ruin the place like we have the earth!
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Good works do not take away sin any more than push ups cure a snake bite!
4. You can be saved! Moses went and prayed to God for the people of Israel. He could not save them. Just like no human can save you or me. God told Moses, “Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.” This is an incredibly simple solution; LOOK AND LIVE! Anyone who believed the words of God through his servant Moses could be saved! All they had to do was LOOK AND LIVE! Just believe God.
Jesus said, And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:14-15) How simple is that!?
Jesus died for your sins. He was buried and rose from the dead three days later to prove He was God and had the power over death and Satan. And all He wants you to do to be saved from sin and hell is… believe. LOOK AND LIVE!
You were born with a sin nature, helplessly bound in sin. God in His Love made salvation as easy as possible. All you must do is LOOK AND LIVE! Admit you are a sinner, understand you will be punished, confess that you can’t save yourself, and believe in Jesus! LOOK AND LIVE!
God loves you and has saved you! He wants you to go to heaven! But first, you must have your sins washed away in the blood of Jesus. He made it simple, just believe that Jesus has saved you, and that He is the only one who can save you, and you will be saved! (1 John 5:13)
If you are a Christian, every time you sin, LOOK AND LIVE! There is an infinite forgiveness and grace at the cross!
God is so good! LOOK AND LIVE! With this in mind I want to live my life for Jesus! I want others to know the simplicity found in Christ. Share the gospel so others too can look and live!
